We're Having a Baby

Well, it's official...I've announced it on facebook! So we all know that makes it true. But to be honest, even though I'm halfway done with my pregnancy it still doesn't feel real. Since I'm now a little over 20 weeks I will post what has taken place since the beginning and then after this I will try and post every week so that friends and family can keep up with the experience. The main reason is so that I have something to look back on when this joyful experience is over.

On Jan 4th during my lunch break at work I discovered I was pregnant. Mainly I just knew since I was late but needed confirmation and couldn't wait. This was a complete and total shock considering Jared and I had only mentioned not worrying about preventing it anymore and then low and behold, fertile myrtle over here winds up pregnant like 2 weeks later. HA! Well, it just so happened that on this day Jared was off of work so I knew there was no way I could wait until I got home at 6:30 and I refused to tell him over the phone. It was at this point that I left work and began my hour and a half long trek home. This drive typically goes by fast but this day it felt like it took weeks. I was a nervous wreck and needed a drink but realized those days were over, at least for the next 9 months :) I sent Jared a text to make sure he was home and not hunting or fishing, but needed it to be a surprise so I simply asked "what are you doing?". He responded with the fact he was starting a load of clothes. I thought THAT'S FANTASTIC! He's home, I can pull in the driveway, knock on the front door, and be holding the test in my hand when he opens it. So I pull in the driveway, run to the front door, knock...no answer. I dug my keys back out of my purse walked in the house and called his name...no answer. I proceeded to call him and he answers to let me know he has gone to the river to fish. I cried. (Hormones are a crazy thing!) I requested that he come home because "I wasn't feeling well" which he thought was odd because less than 20 minutes ago I told him I was at work. He pulled up on the four wheeler, walked in the door, and I said "you're going to be a daddy!" He hugged me and then stepped back and said "wow, that was quick!" We both laughed and I asked him if he suspected it and he said "well, I either thought you were home to tell me you were pregnant or you were leaving me" to which I realized meant I had not be the most pleasant person to be around lately apparently. lol!

The next day Jared came home with the stomach virus. We separated ourselves and he slept in the guest room and used the guest bathroom just to make sure I wouldn't get sick. That Saturday we had company over for Amy's birthday and Jared had just started to gain a little life and color back in his face. I decided I would run to the grocery store for the items we were cooking that night so I grabbed Jared's keys and headed to the store. I realize now that wasn't the best idea considering the virus had been lying in wait for those two days and I gave it a healthy low immune system body to attach to. I ended up with the virus starting around 2am that Sunday morning.

Thankfully, that was the ONLY day I got sick during pregnancy and it wasn't because of morning sickness. Yes, I have been extremely lucky and managed to avoid morning sickness all together. In fact, I haven't felt pregnant. 20 weeks and not a single moment of feeling pregnant. At times it actually worries me but then I remind myself to feel lucky. The only thing I have suffered from during this pregnancy is headaches, which honestly I can't complain about because I had them before I got pregnant, they are just worse and more often now. BUT compared to some of my friends and family, I seem to be having the easiest pregnancy ever! Hope this continues right on through delivery lol!

I went yesterday to find out the gender and baby Martin is healthy and active. The baby flipped numerous times during the ultrasound and is measuring right on track! I am now feeling the kicking more than I was last week which lets me know that here soon I should really be feeling it. Other than that, the past 20 weeks have been like every other week of my life. It hasn't stopped me from cleaning, hanging out with people, staying busy, working, etc...

How far along? 20 Weeks and 1 day
Size of Baby: According to What to Expect.com, a small cantaloupe, around 7 inches long and 11 ounces (the ultrasound confirmed the 11 ounce weight yesterday)
Total Weight Gain/Loss: 5 pounds since pre-pregancy. I have had 4 appts since I found out and this is the first one where I had actually gained any weight. I lost a pound during my first trimester (even tho I wasn't sick). There were 5 weeks between my last appt and this one and I gained about 1 pound a week...completely on track for my second trimester!!!
Maternity clothes? Are extremely comfy!!! But in all seriousness, I wear maternity jeans occasionally or pre-pregnancy jeans with a belly band. Up until about 2 weeks ago I could wear my pre-pregnancy jeans without the belly band but they are much more comfortable with it. And I'm still wearing my pre-pregnancy work pants.
Stretch marks? None yet, fingers crossed!!!
Gender: Won't be revealed until our parents know...but stay tuned, it will hopefully be posted next week :)
Belly Button In/Out: In
Wedding rings on or off? On
Sleep: Not great. I have to pee at least once during the night (which I'm not used to because before pregnancy that never happened) and I have extremely weird yet vivid dreams. They seem so real that it scares me at times. And not all are good :/
Movement: Happening more frequently or maybe I'm just noticing it more. Especially after I've been active like yesterday after I cleaned the house.
Food cravings: Amazingly enough I haven't been a person with crazy cravings this whole pregnancy. Mainly I've wanted salads but here lately it's mexican food or a calzone. My husband is lucky, he hasn't made any crazy late night craving runs lol!
Best Moment This Week: Seeing baby Martin on the ultrasound. It's amazing how it went from a bean to a baby in such a short time!
Miss Anything? Cheese dip from the mexican restaurant and deli meat which is crazy because before I got pregnant I wasn't a huge fan of deli sandwiches, guess it's the whole knowing I can't have it thing lol!
What I am looking forward to: Starting on the nursery
Have you started to show yet? Yes, I just feel like I look overweight right now tho

If there's anything else that anyone is curious to know about let me know!
